What an incredible experience to have had. Needless to say you're better off without someone like that; the behaviour is so out-there bonkers it's likely to repeat itself in some shape or form over and over again. I wouldn't beat yourself up about not spotting those red flags—if you love someone, you don't think you need to watch out for red flags, and someone who wants to deceive tends to be quite good at it.
