What an excellent article! My two cents worth re: shame is how heavily it features in criminal justice (simply because that's what I wrote about most recently). The condemnation that goes with it and how it leaves people doubly worse off when it comes to rebuilding their lives: they have a conviction, and they are taught to feel a lifelong shame about their conviction. And we wonder why re-offending rates are as high are they are!
