Really enjoyed your article. And it got me thinking of representations of class structure in Victorian novels. The attempts to capture dialect within the omnipotent narrator model you reference to modern ears can sound excruciating. And yet, when I try to drill down into the issue, I can't see how there's another way of doing it. Maybe the first person I guess?
