My biggest regret when struggling with a break-up - well, being unceremoniously dumped for someone else after a series of hook-ups and mini-relationships with other guys throughout a five year "relationship" - is not seeking professional help. Friends, as you say, are well-meaning but only a trained professional can help in the ways we need when we are at rock bottom.
