I’ve not seen people getting the boot as a result of these factors (though that perhaps is a cultural difference between the US and the UK arising out of very different employment laws) but I do think you’re onto something with this. One of the least enjoyable aspects of corporate life for me was the extraordinary mis-match between the language of prosperity (in the “live your best life” sense of the word) and what actually happened on the shop floor.
