It's one of the great unknowns of my life, I guess, but given that I started at university aged 17 (a quirk of misaligned Scottish and English education systems) I do sometimes think I would have been an ideal candidate for a gap year. As to the consequences of that, we will never know but it certainly would have meant for a different university experience.
