I was watching Zane Lowe's interview with Matty Healy of The 1975 and was struck by Zane casually throwing into the conversation that he *hated* himself in his twenties and thirties. His message was "It Gets Better" but I'm beginning to think this self-hatred is pretty much endemic at this point.
