Great piece. This point in particular has really piqued my curiosity. I find myself wondering: Do most of us (secretly) want the forever relationship but don't know how to go about achieving it (hence soaring divorce rates and declining numbers of marriages, etc.)? Or has there been a cultural shift in the West so that "forever" relationships are considered old-fashioned and that the "better" model is to consider relationships as "chapters" in a life? Personally, I prefer the "forever" view but I'm a romantic at heart...
