Great article, and very timely. Capitalism has an urgent problem on its hands, and I say that as a capitalist-supporting libertarian. Why? Capitalism at its core is a brutal thing (though fortunately less brutal than most of the alternatives) but only now are we entering a version of it where the majority of people have poor prospects of generating their own capital. We are a wage-slave society, in a way that we weren't when capitalism in its loads-of-money-yuppy-eighties form flourished. That was a period of excess, obviously, but a lot of people were benefiting in a proportionate way to their starting point. That no longer happens with anywhere near the same frequency, and that is an existential problem for the ideology.
